Case Study: MYSTIX™ STEAM SHOWERS BY BRIZO®

Our VR App Brings the Experience to Life

OVERVIEW

A Digital Way to Sell the Hottest Trend in Wellness

WHAT WE DID

  • Storyboard
  • Wireframe
  • Interface Design
  • App Design
  • 3D Modeling
  • Design Intent Package
Our bathrooms are becoming more like spas every day. From heated floor tiles to towel warmers to lighted mirrors, the list of spa-like amenities being offered by bathroom brands just keeps growing.

In the shower category alone, our client Brizo® offers hand showers, shower columns, body sprays, thermostatic showers, and the hottest trend in the wellness movement, steam. So Brizo® challenged us: What would be the best way to increase engagement and consideration for their Mystix™ Steam Showers in showrooms, among associates and visiting designers alike?

Thanks to our digital marketing team, it turns out there’s an app for that.

A Two-Agency, Divide-and-Conquer Approach

For this particular project, we were teamed up with a fellow Brizo® marketing partner. While our roles were clearly defined (S/M designed the web app, the other partner developed and activated it), our respective digital teams were in constant communication about features, touchpoints, interfaces, and the like.

To encourage users to visit showrooms and see the Mystix™ display in person, we agreed early on that the VR experience would be an on-site web app. To gain access, visitors use their phones to scan a QR code in the showroom, which opens the experience in their browsers.

Creating an Oasis of Calm

The designers who visit showrooms are busy people. When they arrive, it’s likely they’ll be feeling the stress of travel, as well as the tension created by their current mental to-do list. With a little help from our steam shower app, showroom owners can encourage these busy visitors to take a deep breath and soak in the benefits of an in-home spa experience.

Of course, complete relaxation can only be achieved by taking an actual steam shower—which we trust they’ll aspire to upon leaving the showroom.

Laying Out the User Journey

During the first phase of our app-design process, S/M created a storyboard identifying key touchpoints in the user journey. To aid Brizo® in their post-experience sales follow-up, we also included recommendations for key data to track, including how many people scan the QR code and which hotspots they click the most.

We designed the app as a virtual shower environment, where users could pan to
different hotspots with their phones. Five of the hotspots appear inside the shower
itself, while another five appear behind the shower wall, to show how the system is installed.

The most engaging hotspot features include a detailed overview of the steam shower’s simple digital interface, a volume-adjustable sample of meditative music from the audiotherapy catalog, and the ability to view all seven colors in the shower’s chromatherapy spectrum.

Providing Deliverables with Intent

The next phase of our process was focused on wireframing the app experience. Once we identified the content we needed and the best user flow, we populated the screens with copy.

S/M created high-fidelity interface designs, complete with fonts, colors, and treatments. Our team also created a photorealistic 3D environment of the shower spaces and the behind-the-wall installation setups.

To us, the most critical part of the process was making sure the other development team carried out our final designs as intended. We achieved this by creating a robust Design Intent Package. It included a PDF with specific direction and guidelines, reference animations, an exported 3D model file — even music and sound effects sources.
